Submarine Upholder
This book tell the story of His Majesty's Submarine Upholder, ordered just days after war started. She was to serve with the 10th Submarine Flotilla based out of Malta and carried, as commander, David Wanklyn, who earned a VC while aboard her for his daring deeds in sinking two destroyers, three submarines, three transports, ten ships, two tankers and one trawler, totalling 128,353 tons of enemy shipping.
Upholder sailed out of Grand Harbour in Valetta, Malta, for the last time in April 1942 and simply disappeared. Various theories abound as to her disappearance, but it is likely she was lost near to Tripoli, after German planes reported sinking a submarine in the area.
